TELEVISION ADVENTURE

On 21st May 2016  five year 6 pupils; Ben (team captain), Amber, Libby, Euan and Cai (reserve) went to Scotland.  They were given the opportunity to go to Glasgow with Mrs Wilsher and Mrs Withey as the reserve team for a new CBBC TV Show, “Top Class” which will be released in the Autumn.

They all flew from Bristol Airport and had a chance to go in the cockpit and talk to the pilot when they landed. Although they were not needed for filming, they went to the studios and watched the show being filmed.

That done, they set off towards The Glenlee, a tall ship where they explored and learned about ships in history. Later that day, they explored Glasgow city centre. They went to Pizza Hut for dinner and had a look at Glasgow Train Station which was an old Victorian building.

They all had a fantastic time!

Winning Severn Bridge poster by Angel Ke

Castle Park Primary School Wins Severn Bridge Poster Competition

27.9.16 The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Wales Cymru is pleased to announce that children from Castle Park Primary School in Caldicot were winners of the ICE Wales Cymru & South West poster competition to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Severn Bridge.

With entries from across Wales and the South West, several posters from Castle Park Primary School were successful in two categories, as voted by our international judging panel which included Jim Mawson (American Bridge), Trish Johnson (Clifton Suspension Bridge) and Kieren Couch (CORMAC Ltd).

Angel Ke was the Key Stage 2 Winner and was presented with a Kindle Fire plus Lego by ICE Wales Cymru Director Keith Jones and Chairman David Rowlands at a special school assembly on Monday 26th September 2016. Ellie-Rose Whittaker & Max Philpot, won Lego packs as Key Stage 2 Runners Up and Amy Ke & Freya Nunnick also received Lego packs as Foundation Phase Runners Up.

Kay Ford, Head Teacher, said: “At Castle Park Primary School, we felt it was important to take part in the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the Severn Bridge. The school is relatively close to the Severn Bridge and many families use it regularly.  It is viewed as one of the Gateways into our beautiful country Wales. In previous years we have taken part in the Bridge Building project and made models of the Severn Bridge, which is a Welsh icon.  Many pupils wanted to take part in the competition and the school is very proud of all who entered.  However we are overwhelmed and delighted to learn that four of our pupils were runners up and the overall winner also came from the school. It is a fabulous achievement for the pupils and Castle Park.”

Keith Jones said: “The range of entries that we received from across the regions has been wonderful. All those who entered really joined into the spirit of the whole celebration and it’s fantastic to have an entry from Caldicot taking the top spot as well as two other entries being voted Runners Up for Key Stage 2 and for Key Stage 1”

The Severn Bridge turned 50 on Thursday 8th September 2016 and ICE President Sir John Armitt attended a celebration event organised by ICE South West that included a procession of vintage cars and an exhibition of the children’s posters.

The winning prizes for this competition were donated by American Bridge.

The school would like to add its congratulations to the winners and also well done to everyone who entered.
